Week 20: Halfway Point & The Big Scan
Baby is about the size of Banana (164mm)
The midpoint of pregnancy! The anatomy scan examines detailed organ structures. Sex is clearly visible. The fetus has sleep/wake cycles. Meconium is accumulating.
The uterus is at the level of the navel. Movement is regular. Shortness of breath may begin.

The anatomy scan is the most comprehensive prenatal ultrasound.

Rectovaginal swab to screen for Group B Streptococcus colonization. If positive, IV antibiotics are given during labor to prevent neonatal infection.

Safety: The anatomy scan is screening, not diagnostic. Most findings are reassuring.
